WORDS THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
The focus of the words is important, not so much an aesthetic or formal, but because in the words contains the operating model to which it refers.
In this case, it is very important not to confuse impairment, disability and handicap: improper use and make linguistic confusions terms can be a way to increase the handicap, rather than reduce it.
At the center is the person, we call in various ways (handicapped, with a disability, disabled person) and each of these definitions has its own advantages and disadvantages.
The starting point must, however, be clear: the individual is relatively handicapped, ie the handicap is a fact relative and not an absolute, as opposed to what can be said for the deficit. In other words, an amputation can not be denied and it is absolute; the disadvantage (handicap) is instead related to living and working conditions, in a word of reality in which the individual amputee is placed.
The handicap is therefore an encounter between the individual and the situation. It ‘a disadvantage reducible or (unfortunately) increasable. These reflections do understand how important the fact that the definitions of WHO (World Health Organization) take into account the already mentioned distinction.
The new ICF (*) is a consistent development of this thought, because it does not disprove the already given setting permitting, indeed, to highlight the proactive aspects, and therefore the individual enhancement.
On July, IVF Trial convention
The overthrow of the terms, speaking positively (of functions, structures, activities and participation instead of impediments, disability, handicap), is an important step in this direction.
Looking at the key words of the international classification, it should be noted that the term disability, which was used in the 1980 version, was, in fact, replaced by assets, and that disability was replaced by the word participation, indicating precisely those positive transformations which were implicit.
Other terms that are used are: health condition, disability, activity limitation, restriction of participation, contextual factors, environmental factors, personal factors.
It builds, therefore, a scheme that sees the center activity, which may be more or less developed according to their individual conditions, but also arising from the outside world.

“The day of May 12 will serve to bring together associations and provide an insight into the human condition that is still ignored by most. A day of celebration that wants to be also a warning for the institutions and for those of disability should be concerned, and instead turns his head away. A chance to tell the world “we are here” and we are many, many. You can no longer ignore us! “This is the comment of Maria Simona Bellini Coordination.
The disabled in Italy are almost 3 million but in most they are elderly no longer self-sufficient and do not know the number of severely disabled and very serious, needing a caregiver 24 hours of 24. Of these, only 165 thousand live in garrisons social welfare, and the remainder live in the family.
But Bellini is also very worried “The reason why Italy is the land of paradox is this. It pretends to abide by heavy duties during this time so difficult, but these duties and for the families who take care of disabled people who need total assistance and continuous, are sacrifices that have exceeded the limit of tolerability. While when it comes to rights, which in other countries are considered inviolable, the Italian company turns a deaf ear and forces citizens already exhausted to appeal to a constitution heavily and continually mortified. What is democratic about that? Where is our social policy? “.
Still Maria Simona Bellini “Families are the true welfare of this country and save the various state billions of euro, without which they can count on adequate support and often, especially in depressed areas, support is non-existent. For this event it includes the Olympics of Rights, a path metaphor obstacle that anyone has to do with disabilities who face a daily basis. ” At the end of the day, more than a thousand balloons will rise into the air, the sky of Rome.
